=== Lactic acidosis === Because of concerns about potential lactic acidosis, as of 2026 the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommends avoiding the use of metformin in more severe chronic kidney disease, below the eGFR cutoff of 30 mL/minute/1.73 m2.
